tummy tuck and stretch marks - Wednesday, September 10, 2008 9:50 AM
After having children, I have terrible stretch marks and the ever so dreaded sagging skin on my tummy. I want to get a tummy tuck but I want to know if my stretch marks will go away or will they still be visible? I've heard that stretch marks can never "heal" because they are basically torn skin.

Actually, a tummy tuck can be used to eliminate stretch mark scars.

Best of luck!

results are immediate following a tummy tuck, but they get better as time goes on and the swelling and bruising resolve.

Stretch marks tend to look invisible when tummy tuck is done. Since it involves toning of the tummy, the stretch marks will be less visible.

Can't always expect them to go away completely.  It will certainly help though.

I can't agree completely. Tummy tuck is a surgical procedure and therefore would also leave some scars. The surgeon though plays a vital role in keeping scars barely noticeable but above all it is the patient’s body condition and ability to heal fast that can lessen or worsen the appearance of scars. If you smoke, chances will be more scars and probably delayed healing process as nicotine delays healing.

No stretch marks would heal after tummy tuck. but it takes time.

Abdominoplasty is an effective way to remove stretch mark scars, tighten abdominal muscles, remove excess skin typical after weight loss or pregnancy and improve your abdominal contour.
These benefits come at the cost of a scar. For full abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) there is a scar around your umbilicus and from hip to hip. Typically this scar is low enough to be hidden in your panty line.
Unfortunately, other treatments of treating stretch marks tend to not be very effective.
I hope this helps!
