Breast Reconstruction - Tuesday, January 06, 2009 9:45 AM
I have had breast reconstruction and I am considering Nipple reconstruction. I have been hearing about a lot of unsuccessful nipple constructions. What percentage of Nipple resonstructions are unsuccessful?

Stadler,

Welcome to the forums!

Although there are not a whole lot of published statistics on nipple reconstruction, I can tell you about the possible complications involved in such a procedure.

As with any plastic surgery procedure, there is a risk of complication, however the risks from Nipple Reconstruction are no greater than many other aesthetic procedures designed to give an altered part of the body a more "natural" look. Some of the risks include epidermolysis, loss of nipple height or width, and/or discoloration. Most of these things occur several years after the initial reconstruction and can be fixed with subsequent procedures or tattooing.

Please come back and let us know what type of procedure you decide to have and what the process was like for you!
