Plastic Surgery Abroad - Monday, July 02, 2007 12:07 PM
I would like to give my opinion on COSMETIC SURGERY ABROAD. I went to Colombia with my sister for plastic surgery we wear refer to this company Cosmetic Harmony by a forum and everything went well Andrea my siste got a Tummy Tuck, Breast Augmentation and lift around the areola. it looks very nice the scars are practically gone. oh she also got fat grafts on her butt , lipo injection on her face and Botox on her forehead. I can speak for all the countries in south america but Colombian seem to have great doctors and they spoke english (the people from Cosmetic Harmony). My sister got a freeby the face lipo injections was not in the quote and the doctor did during the surgery. Try to get something for free here in the US from a doctor. well the reason why I'm writing this is because everyone talks about people getting bucher in latin american but my good friend from Florida got a nose job in Coral Gables and in looks like a big "s" so all this stories are happening here in the US as well

I guess it comes down to just doing your homework and research, research and more research. And talk to patients that had work done by the doctor. Get personal referrals form patience that had the procedure.

As I have mentioned before, be cautious about going to another country for a procedure. You need to think about what follow up care will be involved in your procedure, and what you would do if there was any complications. It may be easier to deal with these issues close to home.

I’m leery about getting plastic surgery abroad. I mean, how many people do you know who would rather buy a cheap home that costs you more to repair and maintain in the long term, as opposed to doing the smart thing at the outset and buying a new one? There are too many stories of botched surgeries, people being subjected to unnecessary “practice” surgeries, and who even knows what happens to the ones who go unreported. I don’t like the though of risking my life and looks to save a couple of thousand dollars by going to a cheap surgeon. Ultimately you get what you pay for, so it makes sense to choose a competent surgeon with a good reputation in the USA, even if he happens to charge more than some Mexican expert. If you choose a surgeon abroad, you can’t even sue them for a botched surgery.

The best way to research a surgeon is to ask family and friends for referrals, read up reviews on the internet, visit their website and look at their before and after photos. If you like what you see, schedule a consultation because that is the only way to see if you’re comfortable with the surgeon. Some of them charge for consultations, but a lot of good surgeons offer free consultations. Also find out if they call themselves a cosmetic surgeon or a plastic surgeon. It’s not the same thing. Anyone with a degree to practice medicine can call himself a cosmetic surgeon. But only a plastic surgeon who is board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and licensed by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) can practice plastic surgery.

Plastic surgeons require over six years of surgical training and experience, three of which are spent specifically practicing plastic surgery. Find out if the surgeon has privileges to perform plastic surgery at an accredited hospital in his community. Ask to see more before and after photos while you’re there and speak to former patients about your experience. Ask lots of questions about the procedure you want and about post-operative care. You’ll find out if your doctor is really knowledgeable about the procedure and how much experience they have performing it. Trust your instincts. If you’re uncomfortable with the surgeon for any reason, look elsewhere. It might sound like a lot of groundwork, but it’s worth it and will save you a lot of grief after your surgery.

This is primary stage before you go to search any surgeon doctor.

I had a good experience overseas, I know I was lucky but this is because I really researched for the best company.

I was very impressed with the care I received from Makeover Travel ,the clinic where I had my surgery was very clean and modern and the docs really were wonderful...they spent time with me and treated me like a person...I am very pleased with the results. I stayed for 10 days at the Royal Lodge Hotel....while I was there I talked to other women from the US and they were happy also with Dr.Cossio`s work(my surgeon).

As you can see there are people like me who had wonderful experiences overseas, of course that it can be dangerous if you go with anyone, but if you take the time to reaserch, you can find the best!

Hi...
I had a good experience my face surgery.
I was  truly upset , my face look was not good ,but I dream of improving my look with plastic surgery. Then I started searching plastic surgeons and ask friends about any good surgeon. After that I got a good surgeon which suggest by my friends. Then i make a call and ask questions especially those regarding my expectations and concerns about the results. My surgeon give me specific instructions on how to prepare for surgery, including guidelines on eating and drinking, smoking, and taking or avoiding certain medications.Really it was enjoyable surgery and holiday is to provide a mix of leisure, fun and relaxation together.

We have a lot of really good surgeons in the Philippines. My mom went to Manila last year to have her breasts and nose done.

Hope this helps.

Cheers!

If you would like to get it done abroad, i think it's best to ask people around, know your rights as a patient and be extra careful in choosing the right clinic and doctor.

I agree, it all comes down to research. of course, the clinic should also be respectable, credible, and reputable. the service and accommodation of the doctors and staff should also be considered because it can be very important to some customers. that's why for me, Beverly Hills 6750 is really the best. you can get their contact details here http://www.bh6750.com/default :)

I also had a nice experience in Bolivia, I wanted to go at the beginning with a surgeon called Moreno but then I decided to go with an organization because they offer a surgical guarantee and I didn’t want to take the risk to go with someone I didn’t even know.
I think that going abroad with Medical Organizations have a big advantage as soon as you have good references about their work.
Thanks God I didn’t have to use this surgical guarantee because I love my results but at least this made me feel good at the beginning about my decision.
The Medical Organization I used was also the same than Jenny 78, Makeover Travel, I read very good reviews about them and 2 or 3 that weren’t good but to find 3 bad reviews about an Organization after more than 8 years of experience make me feel good because it means that they work with good surgeons.
My surgeon Dr.Cossio is a very good surgeon, I talked with people who had their surgeries with Dr.Suarez,Dr.Blanco and Dr.Vargas and all of them were happy, of course that it is not possible to see the results just after the surgery but they were happy with the service and with what they saw at the beginning.
It is true that to take the decision to trust your life and appearance to someone is very important, so be careful and before taking any decision research!
