Incision site-odd smell - Saturday, November 26, 2011 9:40 AM
I had breast implants four years ago.  Incision was made through my armpits.  Obviously the scars have healed and they look fine...can barely see them!  However, if I squeeze the scar under my left arm, a discharge comes out and it smells AWFUL!  It's white in color, fairly sticky and it's not an obscene amount.  I've begun to notice that, regardless of how often I shower or put deodorant on, I can smell that terrible smell.  Does this sound like an infection?  Should I go back to the doctor?  Thanks for your help!

Yes!  I would definitely recommend you have this evaluated by your physician...either your plastic surgeon or your family practitioner.  This can easily be evaluated by getting a culture of the fluid.  Please let us know what you find out.

well, this is a bit scary and unusual. I wonder what she found out or if she did ask for medical help...? What could be the possible reasons of unusual discharges?

I do not know if kbdsrg has had this evaluated, but I certainly hope so.  A discharge that is foul smelling is usually indicative of an infection.  But there can be other causes for discharge.  The fluid would have to be cultured to know exactly what the cause of her discharge is.

Kbdsrg, please do not wait to get this evaluated by your physician!  And please keep us posted as to your condition.
