When I had surgery I was overweight. I woke up to a very flat stomach and so far i sill have it. Its only been a year. My problem now is my hip area. Without the lipo my hips look life i have flaps. So yes you can have a flat stomach but if you can get lipo too. My doctor wants to charge me to fix that but i feel that it should be covered and part of the reconstruction.

RE: DIEP BREAST RECONSTRUCTION PROCEDURE (Stephanie)

I would have to agree. I think you will be happy with the results, but I would not expect to wake up with a completely flat stomach. Good luck with your surgery. let us know how it turns out. Oh, and as far as a tummy tuck lasting, that all depends on your life style following the procedure. If you maintain a healthy diet and exercise, you should have long lasting results. Good luck

RE: DIEP BREAST RECONSTRUCTION PROCEDURE (PSAdmin)

 Hello Dezum!

Welcome to the forums!

The deep inferior epigastric perforator (DIEP) gives the "effect" of a tummy tuck because excess tissue is removed from the abdomen to reconstruct the breast. However, without accompanying liposuction, you will probably not have the "flat tummy" you're seeking.

DIEP BREAST RECONSTRUCTION PROCEDURE (dezum)

 HELLO EVERYONE,

I AM GETTING READY TO HAVE A DIEP PROCEDURE AT JOHNS HOPKINS HOSPITAL. I HAD BREAST CANCER 11 YEARS AGO AND HAD A RIGHT MASTECTOMY. I WASN'T ABLE TO HAVE THE RECON DONE RIGHT AWAY BECAUSE I ALSO HAD CERVICAL CANCER AND HAD TO HAVE A TOTAL HYSTERECTOMY DONE A FEW WEEKS AFTER THE SURGERY. MY QUESTION IS:
I UNDERSTAND THAT WITH THE DIEP PROCEDURE YOU ALSO GET A TUMMY TUCK IN THE PROCESS. I AM 80 POUNDS OVERWEIGHT AND I HAVE A GOOD AMOUNT OF FAT HANGING FROM MY BELLY (YEAH...I KNOW...UGH!). WILL THIS PROCEDURE TAKE AWAY ALL THE FAT AND GIVE ME A NICE FIRM TUMMY? I HEARD THAT THE TUMMY TUCK DOESN'T LAST. PLEASE LET ME KNOW YOUR THOUGHTS.
THANKS AND HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY!
