numbness after breast lift
-
Sunday, April 12, 2009 9:31 AM
I am considering a breast lift with implants and have heard permanent nipple numbness is a possible side effect. This concerns me. Is there a high percentage of women who experience numbness of a permanent nature after a lift surgery? What is the percent of women who have permanent numbness? If the numbness is temporary - how long is temporary numbness of the nipple experienced? My surgeon has suggested a "lollipop" lift.

Hello SeekingInfo! Welcome to the forums! Permanent nipple numbness occurs in approximately 15% of all breast augmentation patients. Due to the moderate risk for damage to nerves (specifically the small and sensitive ones in the 4th intercostal nerve, which control feeling in the nipples) it is difficult to predict whether or not one patient is more at-risk for nipple numbness post surgery than another. Temporary numbness is usually a result of these nerves being "stretched" and thus needing to heal themselves, this can last anywhere from a couple of days to a few months, depending on the severity of the stretching. While the Lollipop list is not as invasive as a full anchor incision lift, it is far more complicated. The lollipop lift is usually performed on medium-sized breasts with somewhat severe sagging or large-sized breasts with mild to moderate stretching and sagging of the skin on their breasts. This procedure is not recommended for women with smaller breast sizes. I would definitly research your options before making a final decision, as the scars/risks from a breast lift can vary between the different types of procedures available to you.
