Nearly 3yrs on and still have problem with left breast
-
Friday, October 30, 2009 2:56 AM
I had my breast enlargement in jan 2007. Did exactly what they told me to do after op etc.. The problem is that my left breast always seems to hurt after driving or carrying heavy shopping. This has been happening from the beginning but they say that the implants need time to settle so I didn't really think much of it. (The implant is over the muscle.) To me it sounds like the muscle is contracting forcing the implant further out.( but what do I know ) The breast then looks swollen and I get an uncomfortable pain. I tend to avoid driving as when the pain gets to bad I feel that I want to rip it out. I've been to see the plastic surgery's nurse who told me to go and have an ultrasound, which I did. The results came back clear, nothing wrong with my implants nor breast. The nurse did say go for a mammogram but the hospital refused one as I'm to young. I've since been back to the nurse who has know idea whats wrong and doesn't know what to suggest. I don't really want them taken out cos apart from this they're lovely. Any one had a similar problem??

It sounds like the nerve is being irritated. The ultra sound would have shown common problems such as capsular contracture. Another option for more extensive imaging might be an MRI. You should discus this with your plastic surgeon.

hi stephanie thanks for replying. I've spoke again to the surgery and we've decided to take it out and reposition it. Hope this works

I think the recourse you took is best and you are fine now. My best wishes!

Hi iamlinz, Based on your description I'm thinking of the possibility of Baker IV capsular contracture. Is your breast contour somewhat distorted? Is the surgeon who is planning on explantation the same surgeon who placed the implant? I would recommend that you consult with your original plastic surgeon prior to explantation. Because if the problem is capsular contracture and you're only 3 yrs out from the procedure, you may want to get a capsulotomy instead of a new implant, which is a lot more expensive. Good luck!
