Will I have black eyes after nose surgery? - Monday, September 15, 2008 11:45 AM
My wife had rhinoplasty about 10 years ago and had pretty bad black eyes for about 2 or 3 weeks after her surgery. Her sister had nearly the exact same procedure (to correct a bump, near the top of the bridge) and had very little bruising and no black eyes. Is this from an error on the surgeon's part or is this something that depends almost entirely on the patient? I'm considering having a nose job myself, but don't really want to deal with excessive bruising, swelling or black eyes.

Bruising is normal (as stated in this rhinoplasty procedure page. And you're right; the amount of brusing depends on the patient. Some people just bruise easier than others.

It also depends on the extent of work done to the patient's nose. If only minor corrections are made, there is likely to be less bruising than someone who has a more extensive surgery.

I don't know about black eyes after nose surgery. But you have to show any proper skin specialist doctor for it. So he can give a good advice for it.

Black eye appearance is very common with rhinoplasty. It does take approximatley 3 weeks for the bruise to resolve

I had a septorhinoplasty done 9 months ago. Fortunately, I was out the next day after the surgeon removed my packing (what a relief!) and I had more of yellow-ish eyes than the official black eye.

Hope that helps!

bruising always occurs after rhinoplasty surgery and it's totally normal. whether it's a small bruise or a dark bruise under the eye which causing it to appear like a black eye is expected when you have your nose job.

It all depends on how fast you normally heal from bruising. Some people take weeks, others can have zero bruising on day 2 after the surgery. Check out my bog for more info on recovery from rhinoplasty as well as anything else you'd need to know!

Bruising is caused by damaged mini blood vessels under the skin, which are leaking blood. It may change from person to person, but there are two ways to minimize bruising which will work for everyone:

1. Cold compress (wrap an icepack witha cloth and apply on the affected area.)
2. Applying pressure on the affected area (preferably while applying the icepack. Also be careful not to put any pressure on the surgery area.)

It also depend on the extend of the work done to the patients nose.If only minor correction are made.its very likely to be less brushing than someone who has very more expensive surgery.

The effects after surgery depends from person to person. You should consult doctor. The after effects go with the time.

You can expect that. Every surgery carries some kind of discomforts and it is not necessarily the fault of the doctor. Most patients experience bruising and swelling around their eyes following rhinoplasty and this will exist for two weeks or less. Also the swelling can be seen around nose and inside. Different people have different skin anatomy and health, so the effects would vary. However, the discomforts would be there in some or other way. Give great care and attention to you after the surgery since any kind of disturbance to nose can cause infections which sometimes result in scars. So be careful. Follow the instructions of your doctor.

When performing any rhinoplasty, especially involving bony work, it is common for there to be bruising around the eyes. This bruising most commonly resolves within 2 to 3 weeks or so. On occasion, the bruising will linger and very slowly resolves over many months. In my experience, there is no specific effective treatment including creams, pills, laser, etc. It is best to apply cover up make-up. Eventually, the darkness created by the bruising will almost always eventually abate with time.

Bruising is a part of rhinoplasty. It varies patient to patient. Also if the surgery is small then it should be less. It doesn't have any treatment actually. It will fade away with the time.

Maybe. If your rhinopalsty requires fracturing the nasal bones you most likely will have bruising and discoloration around the eyes for seven to ten days. The discoloration is not painful – it just appears that way. If your procedure is limited to tip or only  cartilginous work you probably will not experience any bruising or discoloration.
