No Better Time for Cosmetic Surgery Abroad - Wednesday, July 22, 2009 2:59 AM
Once again, the summer months are almost upon us. We take a look in the near, try on favorite summer clothes, and realize that we’ve got some changes to make. Cheap plastic surgery is available to help take a nip here, a tuck there. Cosmetic surgeries may involve anything from liposuction to breast augmentation, a nose job, or even a thigh lift. Cosmetic surgeons in foreign destinations are highly skilled, world-renowned, and offer a multitude of cosmetic surgery procedures to meet any needs, at costs Americans can afford.

Cosmetic and plastic surgery and most cosmetic dental treatment procedures are not covered by medical health insurance in the United States. Is it any wonder that millions of Americans travel abroad to destinations such as Croatia, Brazil, or India for affordable plastic and reconstructive surgery?

Whether you’re looking for noninvasive plastic surgery, obesity plastic surgery or reconstructive cosmetic surgeons, the world is literally at your fingertips. Board-certified plastic surgeon options, plastic surgery specialists in cosmetic surgery center options are available in foreign destinations. We all want to look our best, but many of us can’t afford the astronomical costs of cosmetic procedures in the United States. Venturing south to Latin America for affordable cosmetic surgery in Brazil at the world renowned Center of Plastic Surgery and Rehabilitation, or traveling to central Europe to locations in Turkey or locations in Croatia are growing in popularity.

I've heard too many horror stories of people going out of the country to do such procedures.  A friend of mine's mother had a liposuction performed in the Dominican republic because it was cheaper.  She ended up developing a life-threatening infection and died.  Such a procedure should not be done because of saving a few bucks.  I want the best hands in the world performing surgery on me, especially since it is an elective cosmetic procedure.

Instead of listening stories that are generally false you should know that there are millions of people each year who have a plastic surgeries outside their country and everything goes well in most cases.

My two sisters, my mother and I, we all had our plastic surgery outside the US and we are very pleased with our results and especially for paying much less than in the US.

I personally had a full liposuction, breast implants, buttock augmentation and rhinoplasty.

The result is perfect I am really happy with my new body. My sister has contacted the  MakeoverTravel agency in Bolivia to organize our trip. Everything was good and we are very pleased with our surgeries. For me the medical tourism is a very good option for people who really want to have a surgery but who can't afford to do it in their country because it's too expensive.

In beauty pageants the winners are almost always the Latin women, and they all have surgeries done, so I imagine there are good plastic surgeons in Latin America... don't you think ?

This is a good option as long as you don't mind the 10% chance your breasts end up on your back instead of your chest.

Surgery in Bolivia - Monday, February 08, 2010 3:41 PM
My name is Fiona and I have to say that I am not against cosmetic surgery abroad, I am going next month for the second time to Santa Cruz, Bolivia(south america) to complete my extreme makeover, like in the tv program.
In the last trip I performed complete liposuction, arm lift and thigh lift, this time I am going to have my tummy done, breast lift, more liposuction and Brazilian butt.
It is true that it can be dangerous if you don´t do a good research about the surgeon that is going to perform your surgery but if you really take the time to research, you will see that you can find the perfect surgeon to perform your surgery, the one that can satisfy all your needs.
I went to Bolivia after half a year of being researching, I think that I made an excellent decision because the medical organization that planned my trip was really good, what really made me went over there was that they didn’t want me to pay anything before my trip, they only asked me for my flight itinerary to do all the reservations of my trip and that´s it; also they told me that I was going to pay all my package after I had met the surgeon and after I had seen the medical facilities and after I have evaluated all their service; to me this was really important because nowadays is really dangerous to buy anything through internet, you never now! Talking about trips, I had a terrible experience, I paid all my trip to Dominican Republic to a travel agent who showed me a beautiful 3 stars hotel, when I arrived there what a surprised the hotel was awful, everything was awful, so since that moment I promised not to do any payment before to see where my money was going to end.
For all these reasons I am going back to Bolivia with Makeover Travel.
I really liked my surgeon, in that moment was Dr.Moreno Paz but I think that is not working anymore, so my surgeon is going to be Dr.J.Cossio, who was my best friend´s surgeon last year, I have seen her results and they are even better than mine so I want him as my surgeon!

I have to say that South America has excellent surgeons, when you see the latin women, you understand everything! So don’t be afraid and just take the time to take the best decision because is your life and your body and you deserve the best!

Good luck!

Replying to the comment by Houston above, this is ridiculous and offensive.  There are excellent plastic surgeons outside the US and many women who have gone abroad and were happy with the results.   I am one of them, I had my work done in Cuernavaca, Mexico.  Dr. Meza is internationally recognized for his work.

Fiona, I'm very glad you had a good experience with your plastic surgery. In the U.S. it's fairly easy to get a free consultation with a reputable plastic surgeon before you pay out of pocket for a procedure. When you have to travel abroad, you are already out a significant amount of money (just from taking off work if nothing else).

It's good that you had the opportunity to meet with and talk to your surgeon in Bolivia before paying. If you had backed out I'm not sure they would have actually let you off the hook financially (the fine print can be tricky) - but at least there was less pressure to go through with the surgery if you felt like the facility or surgeon were subpar.

What was the situation as far as follow up care goes? Were you able to stay in the country until you were fully recovered or did you have to find a U.S. doctor to take you through that part of the process?
