The men in my husband's family begin at age 55 and above get bigger noses that have a lot of red veins in them. Is there anyway we can stop this from getting worst?

The condition you are referring to is known as rhinophyma, or, over growth of the soft tissue and sebaceous (oil producing) glands of the nose. The red veins are known as telangiectasis and are almost always present in individuals with rhinophyma. This condition is chronic and is usually observed in middle aged and older individuals. There is currently no cure for this condition, however, there are treatment options available. Laser treatments are used to eliminate the appearance of telangiectasias, and surgery is used to debulk the overgrowth of nasal tissue. To read more about these procedures and to find doctors that offer them, click on the following link: www.cosmeticsurgery.com

Non- Surgical Rhinoplasty is done by injecting the surface of the nose with small amounts of filler. It is a successful procedure when minimal change is desired. The filler has the ability to fill in depressions on the surface of the nose, and to change the symmetry by softening small bumps or sharp angles. The procedure takes approximately 30 minutes and is performed in a non surgical setting. This procedure however would not be recommended for individuals with rhinophyma! Surgical debulking is the only treatment for this condition.

I have a concern of my own for nose surgery without knives. Actually I recently heard something about laser nose surgery. I am a 23 year old female with a defect in the nose cartilage looking to smooth out the surface of my nose. I have kind of a point at the end and I do not know if I would need any adjustment there but I wanted a doctor's opinion about whether or not my kind of surgery could be performed with lasers instead of incisions with knives. I would also like to put out there that I have NEVER undergone surgery for ANYTHING but have had lip injections (pain reliever) and stitches in my upper lip after a traumatic car accident a few years ago. Thank you for all of your time and support! I hope to hear from you soon! ~Raichyl

Rockette44, I always try to encourage people to contact a plastic surgeon in their area to simply have a consultation. A consultation has no strings attached. It is an office visit for you to inquire about the types of procedures that would compliment you. I feel that this would be a great thing for you to do so that you can clearly assess all of your options Stephanie
