My left ear is smaller than my right one. - Friday, February 13, 2009 1:20 AM
Hello recently I noticed that my left ear is smaller than my right one, about 3-4 centimeters to be precise. What is the medical term associated with this because googling "different sized ears" does not have many results. I always thought my face looked some what unporportional but that was back when I payed no heed, the though of my ears being different sized never crossed my mind because in photos of me they look the same.
I think the main reason (from what I found about about babys) is that I am use to sleeping on my left side and now that I think about it I have always slept on my left side. I think sleeping on my right side starting today in the hopes of reversing my ears is too late...So long story short one of my ears is smaller than the other. I dont usually go to the doctors much and the idea of getting injections terrifies me. What kind of plastic surgery is there to make my ears the same size? Would the surgeon cut my right ear smaller or could my left ear be enlarged? As far as procedures go would this be considered a minor procedure as in I could walk out of the surgery room the second im done with surgery?

Thanks,
Chris.
Stephanie

You can have the problem fixed by reducing the size of the larger ear. This procudure is called Otoplasty. The larger ear would be refered to as Macrotia. PLease visit the following page for more information
