I need advice on choosing the right surgeon. Please help me! - Thursday, May 18, 2006 11:31 PM
I am from the South Bay, CA and I have a deviated septum as well as a small bump. I am looking for a very “natural” job. I am mostly concerned with my deviated septum because I am unable to breath out of my left nostril. I have been researching rhinoplasty as well as surgeons for over a year now and I have narrowed it down to these 6 doctors.

-Dr. Paul Nassif
-Dr. Toby Mayer
-Dr. Raj Kanodia
-Dr. Richard Ellenbogen
-Dr. Palmer
-Dr. Brent Moelleken
Please let me know if you have heard anything about any of them, or better yet, if you have had work done by any of them (what was the price, were you satisfied with the results, would you recommend, ect). I need advice. Please help!
Thank you so very much to all of those who reply. I really appreciate your advice!

Did you already look at the websites for each of these doctors? You can also call their offices and ask if they have any references you can speak to. Sometimes there are patient testimonials on the websites too. If you still can't decide, you can always chooses 2 or 3 surgeons and visit them for a consultation.

i am from the South Bay myself. I had rhynoplasty and feel great about it. I had a deviated septum.
I am very impressed by Dr. Robert Kotler in Beverly Hills. Dr. Kotler specializes on noses. Good luck

If I may, I would really consider traveling abroad for that procedure is much cheaper and I know of a plastic surgeon that did my sisters in colombia the company is cosmetic harmony and she looks great. I went with her but had no surgery. they probide phone numbers of other American patients so you can get an idea. I think the website is cosmeticharmony.com I know people are scare or latin america but my sister's friend got a really bad nose job in Miami (coral gables) Florida.

just remember when you are considering a surgeon out of the country, that most procedures require follow up. Also, if there is a problem or infection, or you are not happy with the results, it may be easier to deal with a physician that is close to home

I have to agree with Stephanie. Going overseas is not always the best option. While the procedure may be whole lot cheaper you'll have a bigger problem in case any complications arise. Not that it happens all the time but it does happen. In case you still haven't chosen a doctor it would be a good idea to set an initial appointment with two or three of them on your list for a consultation. It will help you get a glimpse of how competent they seem to be and how much they seem to care about their patients. You would want to get a doctor who you will be really comfortable with.

Because you have a deviated septum, your procedure may be covered by your insurance. Also, if you cannot decide on a plastic surgeon, you should also consider an ENT physician (Ear nose and throat)

I just read this nonsurgical procedure and thought you might want to look at it. I am not sure it will do anything for your deviated septum though it's still worth a read.

Do ask your doctor when you go for an appointment about it and let us know if it's good for anything more than getting someone's nose prettied up.

Hi lisa72686,
Have you found a Plastic Surgeon yet? If not please consider UCLA PLASTIC SURGERY DEPARTMENT. I recently had my Blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) performed there and I must say it was very inexpensive and my BIGGEST WORRY was my safety and knowing that I would stay at their SURGERY CENTER for the first 24 hours instead of a aftercare made me feel relieved. I really would consider going there if you have not decided yet. Here is their web site www.uclaplasticsurgery.com. Good Luck!

ULCA is known for its safety and excellence in patient care. I would agree that this would be a great place for most procedures

I agree with stephanie. There might be swelling after procedure, so try to check with the surgeon.
