Hospital or Surgery room
-
Thursday, January 19, 2006 6:36 PM
Could you please inform me is it better to have surgery done in a hospital as compared to the Dr.s own surgery room that he has in his office. Is one safer then the other and what is the difference of the two. Thank you

Anntasia, Surgical centers/ hospitals are the most common setting for invasive plastic surgery procedures. If your procedure is going to be invasive, I would start researching what your doctor's surgical room is made of. Does he have the ability to deal with complications in his office? Is the environment sterile? Hospitals and Surgical centers have proper staffing and equipment to deal with complications and to monitor you during the procedure and in recovery. I would be asking your physician lots of questions! If your procedure is not invasive, his private surgical room is probably sufficient.

Tummy tuck is considered an invasive procedure. You are under general anesthesia and the procedure generally takes two to five hours.
