Finding a surgeon - Tuesday, January 31, 2006 6:25 AM
Hi, I recently moved from Sarasota to Auburn, Alabama. I have had surgery performed by Dr. Schmidt there in the past. I am interested in having a facelift done in the near future, I've recently turned 50. I don't have a clue who I can go to. Do you have any referrals that you know of in the Columbus, Montgomery or Atlanta areas? I 'd appreciate any information. Thanks, Kathleen

Hi! I was just browsing through PlasticSurgery.com and found that if you go to "Find a Specialist," all you have to do is plug in the state and voila! A bunch of names will show up... it's a starting point!

Here is a link to plastic surgeons in your area
http://www.plasticsurgery.com/state-Washington/msa-Seattle_Vicinity/procedure-Breast_Augmentation/doctorsearch/results.html
By clicking on the link above, you will see a list of plastic surgeons that perform breast augmentation and the links to their websites. By looking at the different websites you can learn a lot about the doctor, and you will be able to look at before and after pictures. Feel free to call their offices and ask questions as well. Hope this helps

Saline implants are used more commonly for breast augmentation. They are used for non complicated situations where women are simply looking for a change in size. Silicone implants are used when women present with different size breasts, have chest wall malformations, or when there is more to be altered than size. Many women will request silicone implants simply because they look and feel more natural. Silicone implants are also less likely to result in the "rippling effect." Keep in mind that if you are interested in the Trans umbilical breast augmentation (TUBA), your only option is saline. These implants can be filled after they are put into position.

I've heard from one person that you should go to about 2 or doctors before you decide on the best person for your surgery...but then I have a friend who went to 5 before she made her decision!

What's the real number? Any suggestions on getting started?

Having two consultations is a good idea so that you can make comparisons. No one can tell you how many surgeons to interview before you undergo a procedure; you just need to keep looking until you find someone that you are comfortable with. Make sure you do your homework: ask for before and after pictures, some doctors offer references, ask about follow up care, visit your states medical board online and see if there have been any major complaints filed against your doctor. Hope this helps.

In my opinion the best way to find a good surgeon is to ask your family doctor.

I would agree that your family physician might be a good place to start when looking for a surgeon. I still feel however, that two consultations are a good idea for many individuals. The find a surgeon resource page on www.plasticsurgery.com, allows you to do a lot of research on different physicians in very little time. Never hurts to do your homework when looking for a good surgeon.

Hi,
I noticed that there is a section on this site titled "Find a plastic surgeon." You can search for a doctor by city, state or zip, procedure or doctor name. Your best bet may be to search by major city then narrow it down from there. I typed in Atalanta and there were results of surgeons in the surrounding 100 miles. Hopefully this helps you out !

My advice would be to go to the surgeon that you feel comfortable with, not that you feel obligated to. It is a big decision, and an expensive decision. Use the doctor that you feel will give you the results you are lookingh for.
