Eyelid Surgery Question - Saturday, December 11, 2010 4:10 PM
Question on eyelid surgery - I wear contacts and by the end of the day I feel my eyelids pushing down and it is hard to see...I also get irritation on my eyelids (itchy) and (red) and use a sterile eyelid wash to sooth them.  Would this possibly qualify to be covered by insurance..as I am having a hard time since I work 10-14 hours per day on a computer.

Thoughts???

Thank you

Thank you for your question.  I assume that your eyelids are not falling down just because you are tired from working all day.

My first thought is whether you have been evaluated by an ophthalmologist.  Before you can have this condition treated, it is important to have a physician determine the cause.  Knowing the cause for this condition will determine whether there is anything medically that can be done to achieve the results you are looking for.  If there is a medical condition that is causing your eyelids to push or fall down, then your medical insurance may cover the treatment, whether treatment is medical or surgical.  However, your insurance will probably not cover any plastic surgery if it is for cosmetic reasons only.
Have you been evaluated by an ophthalmologist or other physician concerning the cause of your problem?
