Considering breast reduction - Saturday, November 01, 2008 6:23 PM
Hello! I am a 17-year old girl (turning 18 in March) considering a breast reduction. I will be consulting with my doctor soon about it, and hopefully she will be able to reccomend a surgeon nearby.

Anyway. I am very thin (115 lbs; 5'3" tall), and have a 34-DD bra size. Although I'm uncomfortable about my appearance, I'm mostly concerned about the back pain that I have daily. Osteoperosis runs in my family, and I am concerned about my health later in life as well. I do not have enlarged areolas (thankfully), but my breasts are far more saggy than they should probably be for someone of my frame and age. They are also uneven. Ideally, I'd like to be a B cup (a C cup would be acceptable, but I live in a dream world for now).

Although I'm going to be consulting my doctor and a surgeon, I'd like to ask some questions to women who have had this procedure.

-Are your breasts oddly shaped now, or do they have a natural shape?

-Does the breast retain the fluid movement that breasts usually have?

-How much did you have reduced, and are you happy with the decision?

-How have your friends/family/partner reacted to the change?

-How was the recovery?

-Did your insurance cover the procedure?

I'd really appreciate your responses. I'm kind of the opposite of the girl who gets breast implants for a graduation gift!

I think you'll find that it can go either way depending on the doctor and the type of procedure you both decide on. You can see some Breast Reduction Before and After photos for a better idea though!/

-Does the breast retain the fluid movement that breasts usually have?

Yes, your breasts will eventually have the same feel and movement of a natural breast (after the healing and such has occurred)/

-How much did you have reduced, and are you happy with the decision?

Many women choose to go down 1 1/2 to 2 full cup sizes, but your doctor will show you photos of the difference so that you can decide for yourself!/

-How have your friends/family/partner reacted to the change?

Personally, I have seen great reactions to these procedures with the only negative reaction coming from friends who say things like "Why would you want smaller ones? I'd kill to have bigger boobs!"/

-How was the recovery?

Light to Moderate as far as physical discomfort./

-Did your insurance cover the procedure?

Many insurance companies do, as it is considered a health improvement due to documented back problems previously./

Thank you! I'm going to my doctor tomorrow actually, to reccomend a surgeon. I have been considering this for a very long time.

No problem! I hope you come back and let me know how your appointment went and what the doctor suggested! :D
