Breast Reconstruction - Tuesday, January 27, 2009 6:26 PM
I had breast reconstruction last year due to a double masectomy. I had the DIEP procedure and am pleased with my breast results. I have an extensive scar from hip to hip and while the tummy tuck is a great benefit I have what some call "dog ears" I hate my hips now as they look really weird. I went to my plastic surgeon who is great by the way and he said he would do a scar revision but to fix my area of concern I would also need lipo. He gave me a quote for the procedure but my question is, Shouldn't this be covered as reconstruction?

I am so glad that you are happy with the reconstruction following mastectomy. Did your insurance pay for the augmentation? My next question is what exactly do you mean by Dog Ears. This term usually refers to a flap or piece of skin that does not match up when a medical provider is trying to close an incision. If it is not corrected it can result in an unfavorable scar. Let me know so that I can give you more information.
